Let’s face it, and let me stipulate it up front, I am not the worlds greatest writer. Having said that, or written that, I believe it is time for me to start speaking out in a much more focused and thoughtful way.
It’s true that in the past I’ve tended to be a bit more reactionary than thoughtful, and I suppose it’s inevitable that I will at times revert to that character, but there is too much at stake now for me to allow that attitude to prevail. There are a lot of people out there saying many of the same things I am, but there are not a lot of people out there ready to do the same things I am. No, I’m not talking about insurrection or rebellion, at least not physically.
I believe the results of the 2010 and 2012 elections will have as profound an effect on the future of this country as the revolutionary and civil wars. This is yet another time when we must answer the fundamental question: Will government of the people, by the people and for the people perish from the earth? I say no, we can’t allow that to happen. It’s critical that We the People take back control of our government and our nation. For this reason I have re-established this blog in order to put forth some ideas.
There are two major categories of posts on this blog. One is Commentary, which is self explanatory, or at least I imagine it should be. If you can’t figure it out then you probably wouldn’t understand the content anyway so don’t worry about it. The other category is Policies and Proposals. The posts in this category are intended to be outlines of policies I would propose were I in a position to do so. Basically, they are what would be the first answer given to the question: What would I do if I were President?
I hope to be able to help bring clarity and common sense to the debate. In my interactions with Tea Party members and others I have found a great deal of understanding of and devotion to the constitution. This is heartening and I want very much to do my part. I believe that part is to take the argument to the next level. To show what government of the people, by the people and for the people is supposed to look like. To show how a restrained, limited government should behave.
At the end of the day it’s up to each of us, individually, to stand up for what we believe in. I am determined to do my part to see the current crisis we face is overcome and solved. It will take a lot of work by a lot of people over a long period of time. The cancer in our country is pervasive. It’s found everywhere in society from the highest levels of government to our children’s classrooms. The cure is our constitution and leadership with the will to uphold and enforce it. I’ve decided to step up to that challenge. How about you?
