Race Over Substance
Colin Powell took the opportunity today on Meet the Press to endorse Barack Obama for president. This is not really surprising, we’ve been hearing for months that it was likely to happen. I think it is unfortunate. It’s unfortunate for the country as it gives undeserved credibility to the Obama campaign. What’s worse is the credibility comes from a source that probably doesn’t deserve his own credibility. Colin Powell has had many opportunities to step up and do the right thing for the country, but he only seems to be able to do that under orders from someone else. Apparently, leadership is not one of his strong suits. That may sound like a ridiculous statement, but I stand by it.
When endorsing Obama, Powell said this:
“I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming into, onto the world stage and the American stage, and for that reason I’ll be voting for Senator Barack Obama,”
That statement is only half right. It’s true, Obama is a transformational figure, but how that is necessarily a good thing I don’t know. Obama’s idea of transformation seems to me to be nothing more than radical socialism. That’s the kind of transformation I can do without. The idea that Barack Obama is something new is ridiculous. New? I’m sorry, but Marxism isn’t new. Socialism isn’t new. Charismatic radical socialists are not new. We’ve had them before. Lenin, Hitler, Mao, Mussolini and many others have done this before. Someone in Colin Powell’s position knows this.
I don’t believe Colin Powell is a radical socialist. I don’t think he has even given the political and economic issues involved in an Obama administration any thought at all. If Obama was a white man Colin Powell would be supporting John McCain. I believe that. Colin Powell has done exactly what I thought he would do. He’s chosen race over substance. He’s done so without any thought at all about the consequences to the nation and constitution he swore to protect and defend. This disgusts me.
If I thought for one minute that Colin Powell is an idiot I could forgive this. Colin Powell is a lot of things, idiot is not one of them. He is aware of all this, but it’s not enough to overcome his apparent racism. I just don’t know why else he would do this.

Update: The spew meisters at Rotten Tomatoes have actually tried to use this post as an example of the racist reaction from the right they expected. Morons. As soon as a conservative started questioning them on it they decided he was a troll and tried to shut down the thread, but it didn’t work. Morons.
