Bang for Your Buck

Let’s see, what can you get for $700,000,000,000? Lots of stuff for sure. As it happens, there are a few things I think we can look at to give us an idea of just how much money we’re talking about. Here’s a list of things you can get for $700 billion:

1. 87 Gerald R. Ford Class Aircraft Carriers.
2. 333 Virginia Class Attack Submarines.
3. 583 B2 Stealth Bombers.
4. 2,100 C17 Globemaster III Cargo Planes.
5. 7,000 F22 Raptor Fighters.
6. 12,500 AH64D Apache Longbow Helicopters.
7. 118,644 UH60L Blackhawk Helicopters.
8. 162,790 M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks.
9. 221,519 M2A3 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
10. 500,000 M1126 ICV Stryker Combat Vehicles.

Are you following me out there? Compiling this list has given me some serious perspective on just how big a crap sandwich we’re talking about. It comes to over $2,100 for every single person in the United States. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’d be more than happy to throw in $2,100 for 87 Carriers, or half a million Strykers, but I don’t think we need quite that many of them. Still, we could double the current orders on all of those things on the list and still have way more than half the money left.

On the other hand, I’m not real happy about spending all that money because some fascist rat bastards decided to give millions of people cheap mortgages they couldn’t afford. Don’t even get me started on why they did it. Personally, I’d rather have some more of the stuff on the list. At least that stuff has a practical use, like entertaining Putin, Ahmadinejad, Castro and Chavez. Ah! That’s entertainment!
